Whistling (also called feedback) happens when amplified sound leaks out of your ear canal and gets picked up again by the hearing aid's microphone. It's usually a fit issue and easy to fix.
What to try
- Reinsert the hearing aid. Remove it and put it back in so it sits snugly in your ear canal.
- Try a larger ear tip. A larger tip seals your ear canal better and keeps sound from leaking out, which is why a bigger tip often stops whistling when a smaller one doesn't. Many people need a different size in each ear.
- Make sure nothing is covering the microphone. A hand, hat, scarf, hair, or a phone held against your ear can cause whistling. It should stop once the microphone is clear.
- Clean the ear tip and sound outlet. Earwax can push sound back out of the ear. See How to Clean Your Core One Pro.
- Lower the volume one step if the whistling only happens at the highest levels.
Important
Don't force a larger ear tip if it hurts. If the only tip that stops the whistling is uncomfortable, or the whistling continues, contact us and we'll help you find a fit that works.
